A graphical user interface (GUI) is an interface that uses graphical elements like icons and menus to control software, documents, or programs. It is very easy to use and allows users to modify and simplify their requirements.

The GUI interface also includes a text interface, called the graphical character-based interface. Presently, GUI is the most common and well-known user interface for computers and some earlier mobile devices like mobile phones and laptops.

Character User Interfaces (CUIs) and Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) represent two different approaches to interacting with computers. CUIs, also known as command-line interfaces, rely on text-based commands that users must type to perform tasks. This method requires knowledge of specific command syntax and can be less intuitive for beginners.

We refer to programs that use a graphical user interface as “GUI programs.” A GUI program is very different from a program that uses a command line interface which receives user input from typed characters on a keyboard. Typically programs that use a command line interface perform a series of tasks in a predetermined order and then terminate.
