Bernard Georges, founder of New Bridges for Haitian Success, said ending temporary protected status will send Haitian migrants back to an island racked by gang violence.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Friday that it will terminate temporary protected status for Haiti effective Sept. 2. A spokesperson for the DHS said the secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, determined that conditions in Haiti no longer meet the TPS statutory requirements.

The Trump administration said Friday it is terminating temporary protected status, or TPS, for over half a million immigrants from Haiti who will face deportation when the relief is set to end in September.
