Torrential rains before dawn on Friday deluged the Guadalupe River, which burst its banks and killed dozens of people, leaving behind mangled piles of debris, trees and cars.

Gov. Greg Abbott surveyed the flood damage via helicopter Tuesday afternoon with Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows.

Officials in Texas are facing mounting questions about whether they did enough to get people out of harm’s way before a flash flood swept down the Guadalupe River and killed more than 100 people, including at least 27 children and counselors at an all-girls Christian camp.

Texans are reeling from the major flood disaster over the holiday weekend that killed at least 82 people, with another 41 missing. Those numbers are expected to rise as authorities continue searching the affected areas.
