A flood advisory was issued by the NWS Blacksburg VA on Wednesday at 2:58 p.m. in effect until 6 p.m. The advisory is for Alleghany, Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes counties.
NCDOT officials said "given the winds, wave heights and storm surge forecast, it likely won't be enough" to keep NC 12 from flooding at the Outer Banks.
Increased development in Brunswick County, North Carolina, is linked to a rise in flooding in areas not traditionally prone to it. A UNC Chapel Hill study revealed that a significant portion of flooding between 1996 and 2020 occurred outside designated flood hazard areas.
