In Final Destination, Death works with the great canvas of ordinary life. That’s what makes these movies special, and the latest entry knows it.

This was the central conceit of “Final Destination,” a 2000 horror movie, released just past the slasher movie renaissance that began with “Scream” in 1995, that went on to have a uniquely satisfying run all its own.

Horror’s most ingenious death traps have returned to the big screen as “Final Destination Bloodlines” opens in theaters this weekend. The R-rated Warner Bros. and New Line horror has made $5.5 million in Thursday previews at the box office.
