The 2025 college football season is quickly approaching, starting on August 23 with a series of games for Week 0. The Arkansas Razorbacks are not in action this week but must wait, like most other teams.

The new metric -- titled record strength -- will give further credit to how a team performs against its schedule. It will give extra credit for beating quality teams, while lessening the penalty for losses against tougher opponents.

The College Football Playoff is giving more weight to strength of schedule and introducing a new selection metric after Alabama and two other three-loss SEC teams were left out in 2024.

Only three SEC teams made the College Football Playoff last year, but the conference is deep with contenders in 2025.
