Nintendo clears up the recent confusion surrounding physical Switch 2 Edition games and what is actually included within the box.

Nintendo has clarified how exactly its next-gen Switch 2 Edition re-releases will work, confirming that both cartridge and digital options are available.

Nintendo said Switch 2 Edition games will be different from your original Switch games, since they may offer improved graphics, unique ways to play the game with the Switch 2 hardware and more.

But it’s still the first indication from Nintendo that it will go down this route for cross-gen releases. It remains to be seen whether Nintendo will charge extra for Switch 2 Edition games.

Polygon has contacted Nintendo of America for confirmation of the U.S. pricing of Switch 2 Editions of these games, and will update this article when we hear back.
