You can't delete individual files from a CD-RW disc on Windows XP, as Windows XP does not support packet writing. Packet writing is a technology that writes data in small blocks to the CD-RW disc.

In order to back them up, Time Machine has to copy the disk image file. If you make any change to the contents of a disk image, the entire file winds up copied to Time Machine.
