Microsoft Excel updates cell references when you copy an expression. Here are a couple of workarounds for those rare occasions when you don't want to change the cell references.

If your cells contain data, the sample displays the first date in your range of selected cells. Click "OK" to apply your formatting. Press "Ctrl-C" to copy the cells you formatted.

The cells will select but you will not be able to copy. When you select in Excel, you can do multiple cells or groups of cells.
