You can now add contacts within the WhatsApp app instead of having to add their details to your phone's contact list.

‌iOS 18‌ also introduces new options for adding numbers to contacts directly from the Keypad. After entering a new number, tap the new button in the top-left corner of the Keypad screen.

WhatsApp is expanding where and how you can add and update your contacts list, with a goal of eventually allowing you to add new contacts using a username without needing a phone number.
