Microsoft’s decision to retire Azure Database for MariaDB signals a strategic shift toward its flagship offering, Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server.

Separately, Microsoft revealed that Flexible Server — a deployment option for Azure Database for MySQL and Azure Database for PostgreSQL — will launch in general availability this month.

That’s because Microsoft also today launched a new migration service that allows developers to take their third-party and SQL Server databases and move them to Azure SQL Database.
