After Office 2024 launches in October, Microsoft will disable ActiveX controls by default in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio client apps.

Microsoft announced it will begin disabling all ActiveX controls in Windows versions of Microsoft 365 and Office 2024 applications later this month.

Form Control objects are self-contained within Excel, while ActiveX Control objects use Visual Basic for Applications for formatting and scripting.

In Office 2007 and 2010 you can turn off all ActiveX controls. Things are a little trickier in Office 2003.
