10-digit dialing coming to 507 area code region Beginning July 30, 2024, all local calls made within the 507 area code region must be placed using 10 digits (area code + the 7-digit telephone number).

Starting Aug. 25, all local calls made within the 318 area code must be dialed using 10 digits (area code + the 7-digit telephone number).

The overlay does not require customers to change their existing area code, but will require dialing the area code and the 7-digit telephone number to complete local calls.

If you currently dial seven digits for a local call in the Detroit area, get ready to include the 313 area code.
