DevOps specialist GitLab has officially taken over the control of a GitLab extension for Microsoft's open source, cross-platform Visual Studio Code editor.

Visual Studio Code, the popular development text editor and IDE, has rolled out its big July 2025 release. The v1.103 update adds new Git and terminal integrations, better language support, and more.

Visual Studio 17.9 adds AI-generated Git commits and enhances extensibility, while Visual Studio 17.10 brings AI-powered chat into the IDE.

Visual Studio 2022 17.1 Preview 2 also introduces customizable Code Cleanup profiles. These run automatically whenever a file is saved and will help minimize stylistic violations within PRs.
