South Africa captain Wiaan Mulder defended his decision to declare on 367 not out as he was closing on the record for the highest individual Test innings, which is Brian Lara’s 400 not out.

Wiaan Mulder became the fifth-highest scorer in a Test innings and surpassed Hashim Amla's 311* to record the best score by a South African batsman.

After declaring on himself with 33 runs remaining to tie the highest individual Test score, Mulder said Lara deserves to keep the milestone.
